Color Map Adjustment

This page will list the steps required to adjust the color mapping properties on a Cyberware PS, MM, MS, or LN scanner using DigiSize.

In order to complete this procedure, you must have the following:

Procedure

  1. Obtain a calibration cylinder from Cyberware Support. To request a calibration cylinder, please contact Cyberware Sales.
  2. NOTE:
    You will be responsible for ALL shipping/handling charges for the shipment of the cylinder to your site and back to Cyberware. The test cylinders are also available for purchase.
  3. Place the calibration cylinder onto the motion platform, centered over the axis of rotation.
  4. Secure the calibration cylinder to the motion platform with a few pieces of clay or hot glue. The cylinder should not be allowed to move during this process, even minutely.
  5. Ensure that the 3030 fluorescent lights are turned on.
  6. Launch DigiSize.

  8. Open the Scan Setup window by clicking on the Setup button at the bottom-left of the DigiSize window.

  10. In the Scan Setup window, choose these settings for the scan:
  11. Mode:Circular
    Texture:RGB
    Arc:360
    Pitch:0.70
  12. Click the Accept button.

  14. Scan the calibration cylinder using the settings from above by clicking the Scan button.

    Select Within the Colored Area
  16. Select Shaded Textured Surface from the View menu (CTRL + x). This view will allow you to see the range data and the color data.
  17. Select Edit | Texture Controls.... The texture controls window should appear on your monitor.
  18. Please note that the Model Shop and Head & Face Scanner controls are displayed below.

    This control panel is the interface to all of the color mapping controls. The pertinent controls are explained below (for a more detailed description of the various controls in this window, please consult the reference section of this user guide):

    IMPORTANT:
    It is important that you use only the sliders that are discussed in this procedure. Modification of the remaining sliders is not necessary, and may make the color alignment process extremely difficult.
  19. Adjust the vertical (Y) mapping:
  20. Adjust the sliders listed below in order to get the best mapping of the color texture along the vertical (up/down) axis. After each movement of a slider, use the Process button to see if your changes are acceptable. Use very small changes until you are comfortable with the adjustment procedure.

    1. The Move M slider controls the up and down movement of all three (3) color channels; Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B).
    2. If available, the Move M Red, Move M Green, and Move M Blue sliders control the color convergence. The values of these sliders may or may not be equal, depending upon your particular scanner. These values, typically, do not need modification.

    4. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.

    6. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the vertical direction.
  21. Adjust the horizontal (X) mapping:
  22. Just like the sliders above, use the Process button to verify that you're moving the texture in the correct direction and receiving appropriate results. Also, use very small changes until you are comfortable with the adjustment procedure.

    1. Move the Move N to a higher or lower number to adjust the color mapping along the X axis.

    3. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.

    5. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the horizontal direction.
  23. Adjust the X-axis "stretch":
  24. Very little, if any, adjustment should be needed with this parameter. Be very careful when adjusting this value, as very small changes in the value can cause extreme changes in the way that the color maps to the object.

    1. Move the Scale N to a higher or lower number to adjust the color mapping along the X axis.

    3. Press the Process button to reapply the texture map to the polygonal data with the new parameters.

    5. Repeat this step until the color map is in alignment with the polygonal data in the horizontal direction.
  25. Sometimes, further refinement of the variables is required. Repeat the steps in this procedure as many times as necessary to correctly map the color onto the range data.
  26. Open the "*-factory.txt" configuration file (in the ...\Cyberware\DigiSize\cfg\ directory) using any text editor.
  27. Copy all of the variables from the Texture Resample Controls window into the configuration file using this template as a guide:

  29. Save the configuration file.
  30. Close the configuration file.
  31. Dismiss the texture controls by clicking on the Dismiss button.

  33. Exit DigiSize.
  34. Restart DigiSize (this will read in the new color mapping parameters).
  35. Take a scan with the following settings:
  36. Mode:Circular
    Texture:RGB or sRGB
    Arc:360
    Pitch:0.70
  37. Select Shaded Textured Surface from the View menu (CTRL + x) and verify the new settings.
  38. If the color mapping is correct... Congratulations!

    If the color mapping is incorrect, repeat this entire procedure until the color is aligned well with the range data.
