Platform Placement

Please read the Site Preparation section of the Digitizer Operating Manual and the Platform Placement section of the User Guide before performing this assembly.

To accommodate movement, the digitizer requires a circular area that is 2.2 meters (7 ft) in diameter, or 1.1 meters (42 in) from the center point to the outer edge of travel.

The platform should be placed on a solid floor. The standard digitizer arm is unbalanced, so a soft yielding floor may allow movement that will result in inaccurate measurements. Padded carpets may need to have holes cut to allow the platform feet to contact the unyielding sub-floor.

Many of the parts described herein are very sensitive; care and proper equipment should be used to put them in place. All of the parts contain either carefully aligned or sensitive electronic assemblies. Take extreme care not to damage or jar the systems.

Cyberware recommends that you keep ALL of the shipping boxes and packing materials that came with the scanner. These are useful if you should wish to move the system or store the system for an extended period of time.

Required Tools:


  1. Unstrap the 3030 digitizer shipping box and set it carefully aside or move it to the setup location.
  2. Carefully move all other boxes to the setup location.
  3. Unbolt the vertical arm from the crate bottom and move to the setup area.
    On the Head & Face vertical arm, do not adjust or move the bolts that secure the rail to the tube, or the slide to the rail. Adjusting these bolts or screws will interfere with the alignment of the total system.
  5. Unbolt the Head & Face platform assembly from the crate bottom and move to the setup area.
  6. Remove the wooden blocks from the crate bottom and move them to the setup area. DO NOT DISCARD these blocks. They will be used in a later step.
  7. Connect the vertical arm to the rotary arm:

    1. Place the step near the outside edge of the rotary arm.
    2. Place the wooden blocks on the step, up to the approximate height of the bottom of the rotary arm.
    3. Locate the four (4) #7 taper pins and the eight (8) M10 × 1.5 bolts for securing the vertical arm to the rotary arm.
    4. Set the vertical arm onto the blocks, so that the camera bracket is at the top and the tongs on the post are pointing toward the center of the platform.
    5. Carefully slide the vertical arm onto the rotary arm, until the taper pin holes are aligned vertically.
    6. Pull or push the top of the vertical arm to horizontally align one set of taper pins.
    7. Insert a taper pin into each of the aligned holes, and tap them gently until they are seated.
    8. Align the second set of taper pin holes.
    9. Insert the second pair of pins and gently tap to seat them.
    10. Insert the eight (8) M10 × 1.5 bolts and tighten them.
    11. Manually push the arm to its home position (fully counter-clockwise).
    12. Level the platform using the leveling feet on the platform.
  9. Unpack and mount 3030 digitizer head.
  10. WARNING:
    This is a very sensitive piece of equipment. Take great care in all procedures. Do not touch mirrors or their alignment systems.
    1. Remove 3030 digitizer head from box and place near the motion platform.
    2. Locate two (2) M10 bolts for securing the head.
    3. Lift the 3030 digitizer head into position on the mounting bracket, using the alignment pins as a guide. Be sure the digitizer is properly oriented (opening towards the center of the platform).

    1. Reach under the bracket, and thread bolts lightly to hold the 3030 head in place.
    2. Secure bolts (If using torque wrench: M10-250cm × Kgs).
  11. Attach the centering guide to the digitizer head.
    1. Unscrew the cap screw from the centering guide.
    2. Remove the hole plug from the top of the 3030 digitizer head by pushing it out from the inside.
    3. WARNING:
      Be very careful when reaching into the aperture, so that you do not touch the mirror surfaces.
    4. Attach the centering guide to the digitizer head by reaching into the digitizer head and threading the cap screw (with washer) into the centering guide.
    5. Tighten the cap screw using a 3/16" hex wrench. You may wish to tighten the screw upon completion of the installation, so that you can verify the proper positioning of the guide. Refer to the Centering Guide Alignment Instructions before the final tightening of the cap screw.
  12. Place the scan head dust cover over the aperture of the 3030 scan head.
  13. Connect all cables:

    1. Connect the camera/power harness (which is attached to the frame) to the digitizer head.
    2. Connect the camera/power harness (which is attached to the frame) to the rotary arm (at the joint).
    3. Connect the power supply harness from the power supply (two connections) to the connection panel, and from the power supply to the motor bracket.
    4. If this is an RGB model, attach the fluorescent light assembly to the fasteners on the front of the digitizer head. Place the power box on top of the digitizer head and connect the cable to the top plug at the back of the digitizer head.
    5. Connect the Data cable to the SCSI interface and to the power supply.
    6. Connect the Motion cable to the SCSI interface and to the power supply.
    7. Connect power supply to the main AC power.

    1. Refer to any SCSI Device Installation information that may have come with your workstation or SCSI Card before proceeding.
    2. Have the System Administrator shut down the workstation before connecting the SCSI interface.
    3. Set the SCSI address dial on the back of the SCSI interface to an available SCSI address. The factory setting is, generally, to device 5 or to device 6.
    4. Connect the Cyberware SCSI interface to the workstation's SCSI port or to another external SCSI device in the chain. Be sure to terminate the end of the SCSI chain.
    5. Connect the AC power adapter for the SCSI device to an AC outlet.
    6. Connect the Camera Data cable from the SCSI interface to the front of the power supply.
    7. Connect the Motion Control cable from the SCSI interface to the front of the power supply.
    8. Re-boot your workstation to recognize the new SCSI device.
  17. Continue to install the Cyberware software on the workstation according to the software installation instructions.
